Just one of those days.

Have you ever just had one of those days?  A day where nothing you did quite failed but where you had to do everything 2 or 3 times before it went the way that you wanted it to. That's the kind of day that I had. My plan for the day was to knock out about 15 or so goblets and chalices, and along the way to try out a couple of new techniques for making them in one piece. Then I was hoping to get 6 yarn bowls done since I am running out of them.

Well the first hiccup that I ran into is the clay that I just recycled really needed to sit for a couple of weeks before I used it. It takes a little while for the clay particles to get all happy together, if it is used to soon it ends up being slightly short (not terribly plastic). It doesn't really want to cooperate with you and it absorbs water and gets soft fairly quickly.

The next hitch is actually a kinda ongoing one. My wheel is really starting to not work so well. It is starting to get a little inconsistent with regards to speed and is catching when you put to much pressure on it. This makes for uneven walls.

It wasn't a complete waste of a day. I did manage to get 5 one piece goblets made, and I am slowly getting the technique down for making them. I also got some traditional 2 piece chalices thrown and I will get them trimmed up and joined together tomorrow.

As far as the yarn bowls went, that doesn't have such a happy ending. I ended up with 2 maybe. I say maybe because I am not sure that I am going to keep them. I didn't like them very much when I covered them up for the night and if I don't like them any better tomorrow they are going back in the recycle bucket.

I will try to get pics of all of the stuff tomorrow, I completely forgot about it today. I the reason I forgot is because they are talking about 50 degree temps during the day on Tuesday. If that forecast holds I am going to run a bisque firing. I plan on loading the kiln Monday morning and then spending the rest of the day getting some rest as I am going to start the firing late Monday night early Tuesday morning so that the kiln hits temp soon enough on Tuesday so that it hopefully will cool slightly slower than it would otherwise. So in preparation for the firing I moved the large vases back to the house today. Maybe I got a little overly cautious about it but I didn't want to take a chance with the unfired pots.

More tomorrow sleep now. Oh and the video from today will be up tomorrow for those of you want a good chuckle
